Hey everybody, hope you've enjoyed browsing my site thus far. If you look at my previous blog posts, they are more-so in article format rather than an actual "Blog". Well starting with this post, I wanted to create a more personal approach to the Blog section of my website. So here it is, enjoy!!
I'm a product of the 1990's, where rock music and hip-hop music were thriving, and much of it still had a lot of musical integrity. Groups ranging from Nirvana to Bone Thugs-n-Harmony to T.L.C., all of them were commercial artists (and quite popular), yet managed to keep their music musical. I know, sounds crazy. These days if you turn on MTV, BET, or VH1 you're lucky to hear some good music. Part of what got me so into groups like that were watching MTV Jams and 106 & Park, and all the shows that promoted the music of our time. When I would sit down and watch those shows, I never, ever pictured myself in one of those videos. Well fast forward a decade, and here I am at a video shoot for the new Chuck Brown Band single "Lighters". Chuck Brown was another artist who touched the surface of commercial music, while maintaining a strong connection to his roots and his music.
Now, the video for "Lighters" is being played regularly on VH1 Soul and the track on the national radio, and sometimes I even get texts or calls from people who saw me on TV. Never thought I'd get to say that! Plus, it is great to see some REAL music (with or without me) being played on mainstream television!
